Excellent live performance by LA based Swoon Merchant Mayer Hawthorne on Morning Becomes Eclectic, a show on KCRW hosted by Jason Bentley. Includes his new single 'Love Like That' (at 5'30")- which is catchy as, and one of my faves, Designer Drug. There's a great lil interview too where he talks about  his new album Man About Town and is generally just a charm assassin. I really wish he would come to play in Dublin!

Radiomade's Forbidden Fruit Afterparty This Friday

Radiomade (home to Tiny Choons) is putting on a great gig in The Tivoli after Forbidden Fruit on Friday night (29th May) - I Am The Cosmos are playing along with Diamond Dagger, Miss Kate and No Requests.

Jack from Radiomade told me he thought I'd like Diamond Dagger - boy was he right. It is right up Swooner Avenue - serious synthy vibes not to mention references to all my favourite 80s movies in the song titles.



I Am The Cosmos are amazing live, in all their spacey wonder, check out their album Monochrome below. They have a new album in the bag so hoping to hear some new vibes as well! Looking forward to checking out Miss Kate and No Requests too, haven't seen them before!

Midnight Magic Live in Dublin this Saturday

So there's a pretty sweet gig coming up this Saturday (February 28th). New York disco dreamboats Midnight Magic play a live show in Opium Rooms this Saturday, with support from Dublin's own disco dreamboats Kelly-Ann Byrne and Stephen Manning! Jackson And His Computerband live at La Route Du Rock Festival

Watch Jackson And His Computerband perform Arp#1 - this happened last Saturday night at Route De Rock Festival. Amazing, and pretty banging to say the least. Throw him on the must see live pile! If you haven't checked out the album 'Glow' you should do so tout de suite! 

I've also posted a Red Bull Radio show where Jackson talks about his tunes (in french, but don't let that put you off!) and plays a bunch of them, check that out here.

Also, if you are into the whole musical dreamboat lashing out the tunes while having the time of their life thing, you should check out this live performance of Jon Hopkins from Skif Festival a few years ago. It's a full show, a little darker and experimental, but just as mesmerising and deadly.

Bonobo live at Koko (2009)

Live show from 2009. They don't call him Dream Bonoboat for nuthin*. It gets a little jazzy at times which I usually amn't into but they reign it in (apart from the insane drum and sax solos at the end, but by then you don't care) and it's just gorgeous and chilled. Nice touch at the very end with the photo of the crowd too.

Les Rythmes Digitales live performances (1999)

Came across this clip of some old Les Rythmes Digitales performances, definitely brings you back to a certain time and place. 'Lucifer Rising' plays til just after 4 minutes, then there's some interviews and a pretty amusing, amazingly exuberant performance of 'Hey You What's That Sound' with a massive keytar at about 5'30'- check it out:

Rick James - 'Ghetto Life' live in 1982

Everything about this is outstanding. Not least that Rick James didn't take someone's eye out with that microphone. What a man! 

Foals new tune 'My Number'

This song is my current new obsession. The official video is amazing, all trippy and high energy, and the people in it are all fans the band invited down on the day. On repeat, no sign of stopping.

Breakbot mini mix - DJ set at Le Mouv'

I found a Breakbot remix from 2010 that I hadn't heard before and it led me to this set from a French radio station (I think) called Le Mouv'. It's 30 minutes of Breakbot disco-pop buzz with tunes from Kindness, Tensnake, Roy Ayers and The Swiss (see below):

David Byrne 'In The Future' live - 1988

In 1985, David Byrne composed an album called 'Music For The Knee Plays' for a seemingly outlandish opera called 'The Civil Wars' by Robert Wilson. He recorded it live for the BBC in 1988 with Les Miserables brass band and this is one song from it, 'In The Future'. I'm not sure what's going on but I highly approve:



You can watch the whole thing live in parts on youtube. It is pleasingly bizarre with gorgeous brass and odd spoken word throughout; start with part one here, if you fancy it.

The whole opera thing sounds amazingly mental; according to Wikipedia: "The Civil Wars was conceived as a single daylong piece of music theatre to accompany the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. Six different composers from six different countries were to compose sections of Wilson's text inspired by the American Civil War. After initial premieres in their countries of origin, the six parts were to be fused in one epic performance in Los Angeles during the games, a parallel to the internationalist ideals of the Olympic movement. The premiere of the full work was cancelled when funding failed to materialize (despite the Olympic Committee's offer of matching funds) and deadlines were not met." Talking Heads live in Rome, 1980

I've watched Stop Making Sense a lot. I had it on DVD and used to watch it after nights out. And then the good folk of Lighthouse Cinema showed it on a Saturday night and we danced in the aisles, one of the best things ever. If you haven't seen it, you need it in your life; check it out here. I'd never seen this concert though, Talking Heads live in Rome in 1980. It's a lot less stylized, but just as emotive and brilliant, particularly the performance of Born Under Punches.
