This is a very enjoyable not to mention very erotic mix by Villa and Monsieur Moustache. I'd never heard of Monsieur Moustache before but he sounds like my kinda guy. It includes 'Like An Eagle' by Dennis Parker and an edit of  'Don't Let Go' by Tony Orlando, 2 of my favourite disco tracks and ends with 'Cheaters', so you know it's rad; lots of 80s pop, disco and sexy synthy vibes!

Some of the ones I've listened to have been a bit ambient and purposefully weird, which doesn't really do it for me. Bonobo live at Koko (2009)

Live show from 2009. They don't call him Dream Bonoboat for nuthin*. It gets a little jazzy at times which I usually amn't into but they reign it in (apart from the insane drum and sax solos at the end, but by then you don't care) and it's just gorgeous and chilled. Nice touch at the very end with the photo of the crowd too.

The last Flight Facilities mix (2002 - 2012) for download!

Me, right now, listening to this mix. 

It's back! 

In case you missed it, Flight Facilities were Triple J's Saturday night mix residents for October so they made 4 mixes, each one covering a different decade. (This last one is 2002 - 2012). They went to amazing lengths for each mix, each set is chronological in order with classic tunes and modern edits, and cut with news reports of the time so it's like an awesome musical history lesson. It took them ages to put them together and you can check out the insane amount of research they did here.

This last mix has about 80 tracks in it and is like being driven around my own memory in a mesmerising musical Delorean. I can't even express how much I am enjoying it. IT HAS EVERYTHING. Well played FF.

The Nerdist podcast #340: Walton Goggins

I don't usually post about things to do with TV but I came across this podcast called The Nerdist (which is massively popular, I am so with it) and this episode is an interview with Walton Goggins. My mate Stuart and I had just been talking about Walton Goggins recently because of his amazing name and mad acting skillz (he played Shane in The Shield and still plays Boyd Crowder in Justified, and is brilliant in both) and then I listen to this and it turns out he is hilarious as well, and really interesting AND has an Oscar for a short film he made, AND generally seems to be a total legend. If you like him in either of those TV shows, you should check this out. Or check it out and then go and watch those TV shows post haste!

Life lessons from Mr.T

I pity the fool who doesn't watch all these videos. Mr. T shows you how to 'recoup' if you fall in public - avoid embarrassment by turning that fall into the beginning of a sweet ass breakdance move:



This is from from Mr T's movie 'Be Somebody Or Be Somebody's Fool' which is over the top 80s with Mr. T tackling such issues as shyness, style ('table the label, wear your own name'), treating your mother right, doing exercise, breakdancing, rapping, making friends, reading and daydreaming - everything a kid needs for a happy balanced life.

In this clip, New Edition sing about not succumbing to peer pressure in an amazingly catchy synthy tune. And pleasingly, they are singing about peer pressure while dancing on a pier.

Of particular note is the fashion show, Mr T's dance lesson at 22'30" and a particularly inappropriate synthy tune about working out at 32'.

And on a separate note: this is an anti-drugs rap by Mr. T and Kool Keith. Kool Keith makes drugs sound kind of cool though by name checking all the famous people who took them, although I am sure that wasn't his intention:

A quality hip hop and breaks mix, nice and chilled for a sweet Friday afternoon buzz. Or whenever. I listened to it first at 1 a.m. on a Thursday. I find it quite hard to find good hip hop mixes, particularly as sometimes they get carried away with the breaks and I get fed up! But I'm obviously looking in the wrong places. Any suggestions? Major musical crush John Talabot's set from Red Bull's Boiler Room takeover in Miami the other week: I watched some of this live online and man, that crowd was duff. When Jamie XX came on after he was like, 'What the fuck is wrong with you people? You're on a sunny roof top listening to deadly DJs in the sunshine, I want to see some people dance!' - I don't think anyone did though. Lame-ricans! Having said that, I can't really bear to watch any of the crowds in any of the Boiler Rooms! Much better to just listen on radio:

Vacationland mix #12: Neon Dreams

After just checking out the Vacationland series for the first time last week, lo and behold there is a new one out. Sweet! Has a little more R'n'B vibe this time to start, which is a great thing, then heads into some more dancey tracks, with soundbites from quality movies throughout. Pretty sure I heard Ted "Theodore" Logan (Keanu) from Bill & Ted being very philosophical, and some Bill Murray from In Lost In Translation among others. And it has some Cut Copy! Again, anyone who likes the Flight Facilities decades mixes should dig this. Quality artwork as well.
